So you have decided blogging is right up your street. Where to start?
The oldest blogging tool on the market is a package called Blogger. They boast that you can be up and running with your own blog in minutes. It has millions of users and costs absolutely nothing – you don’t even need to host your own website. It allows you to blog on your own website, for example www.mywebsite.co.uk and not the more usual <name>.blogspot.com. In effect this means that no-one knows what blogging tool you are using. It is also integrated with Audioblogger service. This allows you to upload audio recordings onto your site which is quite unique for a blogging service.
It does have a down-side if you wish to make custom changes to the templates provided. In this case, some expertise is required in the field of HTML and Cascading Style Sheets. However, if you are happy with the standard offerings then there are a variety of skins that are available for you to use.
Wordpress is another free package. This boasts the ability to allow the user to view comments added by readers before they are updated onto the blog.
Moveable Type, created by Six Apart is the best-known of all blogging tools. As powerful as it is, it is by no means cheap, simple or easy to install and use. It is certainly not recommended for those who are not technically-minded.
