Everything about blogging!

micro-bloggingSo you’ve started your blog. The latest quick and easy way to update it is via a process called micro-blogging.

Micro-blogging goes hand-in-hand with blogging. Basically it allows users to add brief text updates (usually no more that 200 characters) to blogs.

One important concept here is that these updates can be done via SMS and email, so you don’t have to be logged on to a computer to do it – a mobile phone will suffice. This has enormous benefits in that you don’t have to worry if your computer breaks down or you’re away on holiday - you can keep your blog up to date.

Micro-blogging can also be done via instant messaging which obviously requires internet access, but is far easier than using specific applications; and as with all innovations, micro-blogging software has been quickly developed to make the job even easier.

The most popular service available as we speak is Twitter and it is a very powerful aid to blogging. Once registered, you are able to send text-based updates up to 140 characters long (commonly known as tweets) to the Twitter website either via SMS or instant messaging. Some third-party applications such as Facebook can also be used. Once received by Twitter, the updates are automatically displayed on your blog and also sent to other users who have signed up to receive them. What’s more these users can receive them via SMS, RSS, email or instant messaging to name but a few.
