Outlined here are the some tips to bear in mind when creating your own blog.

• As with any type of software, there are a lot of packages on the market to help you create and maintain your blog. Try the ones you can download for free and read about the ones you must pay for, before committing yourself to a particular one.

• Pitch the language at the right level and keep it consistent. Blogs are not meant to be difficult to read and understand, so it goes without saying you’ll attract more readers by writing with a ‘laid-back’ approach.

• If you want to attract people to your blog, keep it regularly updated. If you don’t, then your reader’s attention will drift and they may only visit your site only the once.

• Be believable. If you voice an opinion on something you have seen somewhere on the web, put a link to it. That way your audience will not only be able to make a judgement for themselves, but they will have evidence that you haven’t just dreamed it up out of thin air. If they think you are making things up, you may begin to lose your readers – unless you blog is so addictive it doesn’t matter what you write about!!

Last but not least, link to other blogs that you yourself read. If your audience has a similar mindset to you, they will be tempted to go and see what else you read; and it goes without saying, this is a great way to spread the knowledge of what blogs are out there and who knows, one day someone may return the favour.
